Improve Your Time-to-Market
We understand how important time-to- market performance is to the launch of a new product. But to get there, many things must occur initially to lay the foundation of a product’s success. The prototype phase is probably one of the most crucial in timing the development of your next product. At Libra Industries, our typical prototype turnaround from receipt of all material is typically one week, often with first-off prototypes provided in two to three days. NPI project turnaround is typically two weeks, and includes programming for machine assembly and larger order quantities. Our NPI project manager works closely with you to ensure that your project starts on time and that your schedule requirements are achieved.
Flexibility to Meet Your Materials Needs
Our team supports a variety of material procurement options. You have the option to provide a kit of parts, let us procure the components, or use a hybrid of both methods. All formats are acceptable including bulk, tube, cut tape, mini-reels, full reels, and waffle packages. Libra stores moisture-sensitive devices in McDry™ cabinets to ensure that your prototypes and NPI assemblies meet the highest quality requirements. Prior to assembly, the material kit is audited to your bill of material to meet your exact manufacturer and manufacturer part numbers as specified.
Dedicated Prototype & NPI SMT Line
Our Juki™ surface mount line uses interchangeable feeder carts for quick line changeover. We can set up and run your first assembly, hold your setup during the test of that assembly, then upon your approval, continue the remaining assemblies to minimize your risk. This line is located within the prototype & NPI department and is not used for production, eliminating scheduling conflicts with production operations. The separate and dedicated NPI equipment is designed to help keep your project on schedule.
Our engineers work directly with you for clear and precise communication. The prototype and NPI work cell is managed by our NPI engineering team with a dedicated NPI project manager who is certified by the IPC in electronics program management. If manual assembly is required, our associates are experts at manual SMT part placement for low-quantity prototypes with robot assist for BGA, microBGA and leadless components.
The engineering team provides a design for manufacturability report (DFM) that highlights risks in the design, including part footprint, polarity indicators, part placement and cost drivers that may impact the efficiency of assembly manufacturing. Where appropriate, a design for test report (DFT) summarizes the percentage of test point coverage, and which nets require test point access. We can provide advanced notice on end-of-life parts by providing a Lifecycle Analysis report of your bill of material using Silicon Expert software. Libra provides the design feedback you need to manage your product transition from prototype and NPI to production manufacturing and long-term success. Custom Process Development Our engineering team provides custom process development for conformal coated assemblies, special potting applications, custom electronic soldering for power assemblies, custom assembly fixtures and special cleaning for high-impedance circuits. Our experienced test engineers can custom design special test solutions and fixtures for dedicated functional testing.
